Who should attend this program?
This four day intense Spanish Training Course has been designed for all non- Spanish speaking law enforcement personnel who may come into contact with Latino persons, during their duty and off-duty activities, who claim not to or do not speak English.
Course Objective
Participants will learn basic practical Spanish language communication skills and gain a basic understanding of the Latino culture that will enable them to be better prepared to communicate, at a basic level,with their Latino constituantes. Officer(s) who have been provided a basic understanding and communication skills of the Spanish Language and Culture will be better prepared to conduct investigations, diffuse potential confrontations, make vehicle stops and arrest with greater efficiency and with less potential of danger to the Officer(s).
Terminal Performance Objectives
Communication, not grammar, is the primary goal of this four day program. The PARTICIPANTS will be provided the knowledge and skills to permit them to write a citation, obtain basic information from a subject, make a safe felony car stop, and affect an arrest in a safe manner when confronted with a non-English speaking Lation. All participants will take active part in role-play and recitation during the program. The final 6 hours will involve role play of a felony car stop, issuance of a citation, and taking of a theft report.

Correctly Pronounce the Spanish vowels & Alphabet Explain the Various Hispanic Cultures and language dialects Cite Common Arrest Expressions in Spanish Recite Numbers, Days of the Week, and Months of the Year Cite a Minimum of 10 Spanish DANGER Expressions Identify Common Parts of the Body in Spanish Recite Common Spanish Courtesy Expressions Pronounce Street Spanish Terms Pronounce Common Spanish drug 'Terminology Explain the Meaning of Hispanic names Request, in Spanish, information Necessary to Fill out a Report Identify Dangerous Situations Based on Subject Action Identify Certain Hispanic Cultural Aspects in an Effort to prevent and detect Potentially Dangerous Situations Identify Danger Words Commonly Used Preceding an Assault Identify Certain Commands useful to an Officer attempting to stabilize a situation Identify the Correct Way to use Arrest Phrases when taking a Non-English Speaking Subject into Custody Identify Ways to Avoid Pitfalls when conducting an Investigation involving non-English speaking Hispanics
